The US Congressional-Executive Commission on China’s (CECC) 2023 Annual Report highlights escalating repressions in Tibet, emphasising religious persecution, mass biometric surveillance, transnational repression and linguistic suppression. The report reveals intensified restrictions on Tibetan Buddhism, with severe measures to enforce the Sinicization of religious practices. Additionally, the collection of DNA samples from Tibetans, including monks, has augmented the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) surveillance capabilities. It also underscores the forced assimilation of Tibetan children into Han Chinese culture through state-run colonial style boarding schools.
