Tibet’s Relations with the Himalaya – II

“Tibet’s Relations with the Himalaya – II” concluded in Gangtok, Sikkim, as the second programme in a three-part series. The objective of this series is to explore in some depth the cultural affinity of the various peoples of the Himalaya with Tibet in history, politics, culture and religion.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Sikkim, Mr. N.K. Pradhan and Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University, Prof. Tanka B. Subba, participated at the opening session. Fifteen scholars including those from the University of Sikkim presented papers on different themes of the Himalayas: Sikkim can be put in India but Tibet can’t be taken out of Sikkim, Trans Himalayan Cultural Linkages: India Nepal China, Border Trade through Nathu La: Reviving and Rebuilding the Historical Trade linkages, etc. The Governor of Sikkim H.E. Mr. B.P. Singh hosted the scholars at the Raj Bhavan.

Papers presented will be published at the end of the series and made available on the website for download.
