New Delhi: Government is planning to construct a road in Arunachal Pradesh to provide connectivity to people living in area bordering China, the Lok Sabha was informed today.
Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh, in a written reply, told Lok Sabha that government is giving careful and specific attention to the development of infrastructure in all the border areas in order to meet the “strategic and security requirements” and facilitate economic development.
“Ministry of Home Affairs is considering examination of a plan for construction of a lateral road from Tawang to Vijaynagar in Changlang district in the state of Arunachal Pradesh to provide livelihood or connectivity to the border population and for the development of the border area,” the minister said.
He said Arunachal Pradesh is an integral and inalienable part of India and it has been clearly conveyed to the Chinese side on several occasions, including at the highest level.
Government replied in negative to a question as to whether the US’s concerns on India’s nuclear supplier liability clause has allegedly blocked Indian nuclear trade.
“Some nuclear equipment suppliers within the country and from countries like the US have raised concerns regarding suppliers liability provided under the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010,” Singh said.
Noting that both India and the US have agreed to set up a contact group on advancing the implementation of the civil nuclear energy cooperation, he said, “government is committed to taking forward the implementation of civil nuclear cooperation with our international partners including the US keeping in mind our national law and our international commitment”.
He said the US, Russia, France, the United Kingdom and Australia have expressed their support for India’s membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
