Former Party chief of the Qinghai-Tibet railway company, Xu Shuangyong, has been put under investigation for alleged corruption, local authorities said Tuesday.

The Henan provincial people’s procuratorate confirmed that it had opened an investigation into allegations that Xu had accepted bribes.

Construction of the Qinghai-Tibet railway, which stretches for 1,956 kilometers, has attracted worldwide attention, as it introduced railway transportation into Tibet for the first time in history.

More than 73 million people have travelled on this, the world’s highest plateau railway since it opened in July 2006.
