NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said he was eagerly looking forward to his visit to China in May during a call-on by senior Chinese Communist Party leader Wang Jiarui here.

On his part, Wang, Minister in International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings to him and said that the warm welcome received by Xi during his visit to India last year had left a deep impression on him.

Wang is in India as part of “Visit India Year” programme of high level political exchanges between India and China.

Modi also recalled his own visit to China under the aegis of the same programme in 2011 when he was chief minister of Gujarat and highlighted the importance of such visits in promoting mutual understanding, an official release said.

“The Prime Minister said that he is eagerly looking forward to his visit to China in May 2015,” it added.

Earlier, Wang held talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during which the two leaders discussed exchanges between the Indian states and provinces of China.
