The number of Communist Party of China (CPC) members in the Tibet Autonomous Region reached 307,000, 35,000 more than the previous year, increased by 12.5 percent at the end of 2014. Among them, 250,000 are ethnic minority members, accounting for 81.5 percent of the total, according to the bulletin issued by the Organization Department of the CPC Tibet Committee on July 1, marking the 94th anniversary of CPC’s founding.
The current population of the Tibet Autonomous Region is 3.08 million people, which means that one out of 10 persons is a member of the CPC.
Official data shows that as of the end of 2014, Tibet had 73,000 applications to join the Communist Party, of which 46,000 were to join the Party activists.
According to the bulletin, there are 85,000 female CPC members in Tibet, accounting for 27.6 percent of the total members. This proportion increased by 0.2 percentage points over the previous year.
The bulletin said that youth and middle-aged CPC members account for nearly 70 percent of the total in Tibet. There are 140,000 CPC members aged 35 and younger, which accounts for 45.7 percent of members; there are 73,000 CPC members aged 36 to 45, which accounts for 23.8 percent of members.
In addition, nearly half of CPC members in Tibet, or 152,000 members, are farmers and herdsmen.
The bulletin also revealed that out of more than 450 publicly-owned enterprises in the Tibet Autonomous Region, more than 420, or 94.3 percent, have already established CPC units. Out of over 590 social organizations, more than 340, or 58.5 percent, have established CPC units.
