More than 40 people have been killed in landslides in south-west China and northern India.

Officials said 20 people were killed after a huge landslide (left) swept through a village in China’s Guizhou province last Friday.

The National Meteorological Centre has renewed its orange alert for heavy rain across much of China over the coming two days.

China has a four-tier colour-coded system for severe weather, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.

Over in India, rescuers are trying to find survivors after 25 people were reported dead when torrential rain triggered landslides and floods in the Himalayan states of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh.

Hundreds die every year in floods and landslides during the monsoon season in South Asia. In 2013, nearly 6,000 people, including pilgrims and tourists, were killed by floods and landslides caused by early monsoon rains in Uttarakhand which also destroyed scores of villages and towns.
