Gilgit police arrest 54 illegal Afghans

GILGIT – Gilgit city police on Sunday arrested 54 Afghan nationals illegally residing in the provincial capital Gilgit.

SHO City Police Station Zahor Ahmad told The Nation that the local police arrested 54 Afghan nationals for staying illegally in the district.

He said that the arrested Afghan nationals had been shifted to an undisclosed location for further investigation.

Meanwhile, the Gilgit-Baltistan government had ordered all Afghan nationals living in Gilgit-Baltistan to leave the region voluntarily.

The police official said that police would make all-out efforts to ensure implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) in letter and spirit.

Gilgit police also conducted search operations in Jangi Masque area and recovered a huge quantity of heroin and Chars from two smugglers namely Dilawer Masi and Muhammad Shehbaz, residents of Gujranawal district of  Punjab. Police said that further investigation underway from the accused.
