LHASA, July 30 (Xinhua) — The government of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region signed a strategic cooperative agreement with the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) on Thursday to boost economic development of the region.
According to the agreement, the Chinese Academy of Engineering will provide advice to local government on innovative development and will help cultivate and introduce talent in the region.
Zhou Ji, head of CAE, said at the signing ceremony that experts and CAE academicians will work together with local companies in industries including clean energy and the environment to help make progress.
The academy will also provide technical support to overcome difficulties that Tibet is facing, such as plateau climate change and geological hazards, Zhou added.
According to Losang Jamcan, chairman of the regional government, backward technique and education have made the region lag behind other provinces economically.
Innovation and technical support will bring new opportunities for economic and social development of the region, Losang Jamcan said.
A statement was issued Thursday after a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) calling for efforts to promote further economic and social development in Tibet to help the region achieve prolonged stability.
