Light tremor hits Gorkha, 374 aftershocks since April 25 quake

KATHMANDU: A light tremor hit Gorkha district of western Nepal at 4:15 am on Monday morning.

The National Seismological Centre said that the morning aftershock of the April 25 earthquake was of local magnitude 4.9.

The epicentre lies in a location, with its coordinates 28.14°N, 84.72 °E, north of the district headquarters and south of Barpak. Barpak was the epicentre of the 7.6-magnitude earthquake on April 25.

The NSC records show that as many as 374 aftershock of local magnitude 4.0 or above have followed the devastating earthquake of local magnitude 7.6 till this morning.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction Portal, the official death toll of the earthquake and its aftershocks is 8,901 so far.
