According to Water Resources Department of Tibet Autonomous Region, since medium or small rivers improvement project started in 2009, flood control capacity in villages of Tibet has been greatly improved.
167 items has been included in the project planning with total investment of 2.15 billion yuan RMB.
Up to now, 147 items with investment of 1.48 billion yuan RMB have been approved. The total length of river improvement was 1,069 kilometers.
At present, 133 items have started construction and 95 of them have been completed.
Besides, they have totally invested 870 million yuan RMB in completing river improvement of 547 kilometers, which benefited over 200 villages and 130,000 people in Tibet.
It is reported that the project plays a vitally important role in controlling flood and reducing farmland water and soil loss along the river.
Flood control project in Xaitongmoin County is one of the 167 items in the planning. It is approved to construct dikes of 7.182 kilometers with investment of 10.0425 million yuan RMB.
The project in Xaitongmoin County started construction on March 1, 2013 and was put into use on July 10, 2013, which effectively ensured the safety of four villages and 2,609 people and protected 6469.2 mu of farmland and 97,000 mu of grassland against flood damage.
