Officials from five major Tibetan areas of China have signed memoranda in southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region to help ease the rising economic conflicts in their adjoining areas.

The memoranda were signed at a seminar in Tibet’s Nyingchi Prefecture, where experts are discussing ways to safeguard border safety and boost economic development in the prefectures of Nyingchi and Qamdo in Tibet, Garze in Sichuan, Yushu in Qinghai and Dechen in Yunnan.

In recent years, conflicts and disputes have arisen in the adjacent areas of these prefectures due to the development of resources such as forests, mines and water, threatening security.

The memoranda cover a wide range of topics, including management of border resources, improvement of laws, and education on border safety, Zhao Shuming, deputy commissioner of Nyingchi’s prefectural administrative office, said at the seminar, which will conclude on Tuesday.

Officials will step up efforts to improve welfare systems in the border vicinities in follow-up plans, Zhao said.
