Tibet Airlines is planning to launch its first ever flights to Europe.
The airline, which is backed by Air China, has applied to the Civil Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch a daily flight to the Russian resort destination of Sochi. Flights would operate from Sanya, the Chinese beach resort in Hainan province, via Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.
If approved, daily flights could commence as early as November 2016. Tibet Airlines will use its new 279-seat Airbus A330 aircraft on the route, configured with 12 flat-bed seats in first class, 32 seats in premium economy and 235 in economy.
The Sanya-Chengdu-Sochi route would mark Tibet Airlines’ second international route, following Chengdu-Koh Samui. It would also become the first connection between China and Sochi, which hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics.
